How to keep your home organized without stress!

Here are my top tips on how to keep your home clean and clutter free at all times & without any stress!

Get rid of things you don’t use or don’t need.:

I went room by room,  got rid of stuff that was broken, didn’t fit me anymore, wasn’t my style, all the broken toys, overload of stuffed animals, incomplete games that all had to go out… I was even able to sell some stuff on eBay. It is so much better to have 1 proper nice bag then having 5 old-fashioned ugly bags that don’t fit your style anymore.

I made a few piles:

Everything that I own has a designated place.:

This makes it so much easier to clean up.  I always try to return the things to their allocated location immediately after the use. The worst is when things pile up.

I make sure the living room is always well organized and cleaned.

We like to relax in the living room, watch some movies after the kids went to bed and there is nothing more frustrating then having to relax on a sofa covered in toys, books, snacks, things.

I make sure to return the things where they belong and in general we use our living room as a relaxation room not a play room. However there are always a few toys that are permanently stored in my living room, this way the kids also feel they are part of our home and are not bored when spending their time in here. I like to feel their presence everywhere around.

We always clean the kitchen after the meals

I try not to put the dirty plates and dishes in a sink but directly in a dishwasher! I start the dishwasher in the evening and I can empty it out before going to bed or before our breakfast.

We don’t have carpets (only in the kids rooms – but they are not so thick and easy to maintain)

We have wooden floor and tiles all round and I can just quickly hoover or wipe the floor if needed. The carpets in kids rooms are not expensive so in case they get super filthy they can always be replaced. But till now they are in a perfect shape.

I hang most of our clothes!

I hang all my t-shirts, shirts, cardigans , dresses.

I fold: Jeans, sport clothes, underwear.

I fold the clothes directly after they have been dried in a dryer – I usually don’t have to iron them.

I only iron fancy and dressy clothes or shirts – life is too short to spend it ironing.

I do our family laundry everyday – we are a family of 4 with two small kids and things pile up so quickly – I rather wash a load a day and then I have no stress.

We pick up the toys every evening. My son has a Kallax shelf system from Ikea with boxes –  There is a box where all the cars go, a box with Lego, a box with Brio trains, a box with puzzle so it is easy to clean up. There is also enough space for books. I just love this system. It is cheep and practical.

My daughter has a lot of  PlayMobil , My little Pony figures and Barbie dolls, We have a few plastic boxes where she stores the little figures.

We have a special cupboard where we store all our arts supplies, including colors, playdoh etc. We make sure to clean and return the supplies where they belong after usage.

I don’t sweat the small things!

It happens to all – we get sick, the kids are tired, there was too much work, no energy etc.

For clean-up emergancies I have an empty white basket from Aldi and I just throw all the things that are flying around our home in this basket. I can sort the mess when there is more appropriate timing. It is easy as I know where every single thing in my home belongs and I got rid of all the clutter.

I can recommend you a few authors and websites where I find my inspiration to keeping my home clutter free and easy to maintain:

The best way to cook green asparagus

It is the asparagus season in Germany again. My family including the kids loves green asparagus.  My favorite way to prepare the asparagus is on a pan.

First chop off the hard ends of asparagus – you can even break them off with your hands,

Then you put some olive oil or butter in a skillet, add the asparagus, season with sea salt and roast it for about 3 minutes. The asparagus will be cooked but crispy and will not lose the beautiful intensive green color. We like to add some freshly grated parmesan cheese and decorate with lemon slices or with cooked hard boiled eggs or fresh cherry tomatoes.

Healthy & Tasty! This way the asparagus fits well as a sides dish to steaks or fish. It works well as a light vegetarian dinner if you add the eggs to it.

Let me know how you like to cook asparagus? Do you prefer the white asparagus or the green asparagus?

Estèe Lauder Day Wear Matte – REVIEW

Estèe Lauder DayWear Matte: Oil-Control Anti-Oxidant Moisture Gel Creme

My age: 29 years old

Skin type: Acne prone skin with enlarged pores

This creme has a very nice gel / creme texture with a refreshing smell of cucumbers. It promises to control the oil, minimize the shine and reduce the look of enlarged pores.

After applying my skin feels very fresh but not dry at all. It provides a good amount of moisture. The best part is that it does not sit heavily on the face and you can directly apply foundation or any other products on top.

It does not cause new blemishes and makes the skin velvet smooth.

It worsk as a perfect base for my foundation (  btw I love my new foudnation from Rouge Bunny Rouge – reveiw of this product coming up soon).

Sadly there is no SPF in this creme-gel and there is no anti -aging ingredient so not ideal for mature skin.

Otherwise the texture and the smell are just perfect for the summer.

You can buy this creme – gel for 49 Euros – so the price is a bit higher but it does what it promises.

Day Tox Cleansing Foam – delicate Facial Foam: my review

  • My skin  type: 29 yr. old / acne prone with larger pores

  • Price of the product: 9.99 Euro for 150 ml

Delicate Facial foam ( BioDtox, Meadowfoam Oil, Almond Oil)

How to use it: Lather with warm water and massage into face and neck. Then rinse off

This product feels very nice on my skin, in makes me feel very clean and keeps the skin soft. I also like the clean smell it has. The texture is not as usual cleansing products – it is a gentle foam that feels very special when you apply it on your skin. I have been using this product for about 2 weeks every morning and every evening and my skin works well with this foam.I follow my routine with miceral water and my night or day cremes. My pores are not as huge, I get less blackheads and acne ever since I have been using this product. With some cheeper drug store products my skin was a bit red but with DayTox Foam I did not notice this issue. Thanks to the foam texture i don’t need to use a lot of the product. I would totally repurchase it – the price is also Okish. You can buy this product at Douglas. This review is based on my honest opinion and works well with my skin type.

Why I like my life in Hannover

  1. Local people are very down to earth and friendly. Most of the Hannover people feel very real, they like to bike, eat good food and spend their time with their friends and family. Not so many posers and show offs here like in other big German cities J
  2. They speak the best German (Hochdeutsch) so it makes learning the new language easier
  3. The rents are not as high as in other cities in Germany.
  4. There is a lot of greenery, Hannover is in fact the greenest metropolis in Germany
  5. There are many cultural events taking place here – opera, museums, concerts of big stars, the exhibition, food festivals, fashion events.
  6. There is an U-Bahn in the city and a very good and easy to use public transportation system!
  7. It is very close to Harz – a beautiful mountain resort similar to more known but also more expensive Schwarzwald!
  8. Hannover offers probably the hippest residential areas in Germany – Linden, List, Nordstadt… I used to live in Munich and the famous student- hip area Schwabing has nothing on Hannover’s cultic area Linden! There are many hip boutiques, restaurants, bars and coffee shops and  my favorite Hannah Arendt was from Liden!
  9. Hannover is one of the most advanced medical centers in Germany!  The medical care here is on a very high level.
  10. The location is perfect for travel lovers like me. There is an easy access to many airports besides Hannover Airport – Bremen, Hamburg or Berlin!
